This position will be designated as Premium Pay for the duration of the Alaskan Way Viaduct project. Upon project completion, this position will be paid at the regular EPSE rate - $40.73 to 47.81.
Seattle City Light is looking for an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to serve on its Alaskan Way Viaduct project team. This position reports to the Project Lead Network Principal Electrical Power Systems Engineer and is required to lead and/or perform oversight of planning, design development and design review of electric network power systems and facilities related to the complex Alaskan Way Project. This work is highly specialized and requires advanced system modeling and network analysis expertise. Comprehensive project elements include integrating a very large relocated network component back into the subnetwork system, providing system for future land use development and load, and extensive temporary and permanent service relocations. This work is necessary to allow Seattle City Light to continue to operate and maintain power systems during a multi-year network relocation effort.
This position is responsible for the following planning, organizing, and providing technical leadership for the work of in-house and consulting engineering, technical, production, and procurement positions, serve as a technical expert for electrical power systems planning, design, operations and/or maintenance, exercise technical judgment in interpreting engineering data to solve technical problems and recommend solutions or options, utilize computer-based analytical tools and mathematical models to optimize system capacity, to maximize operations at design capacity, coordinate, review and approve revisions to planning and design submittals by consultants, prepare and check cost estimates, project schedules, and labor and non-labor resource projections, prepare specifications and evaluate bids for new equipment, and provide instructions to field crews and answer questions concerning systems planning and design issues for crews, contractors, engineers, customers and the public.
Required qualifications include six years of progressively responsible, difficult and highly complex or visible electrical power systems engineering experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional electrical engineering work on major electrical power systems.
Desired qualifications include experience with maintaining or designing underground network systems and installation techniques. Some experience in both overhead and underground distribution systems is a plus. Knowledge of fluidized thermal backfill specifications, testing and installation is desirable. Candidate should be experienced at reviewing drawing layouts for plans, profiles, pulling calculations. Should be able to perform cable ampacity and impedance calculations. Experience in using AutoCAD and electronic drawing and document management systems.
